Mesa school officials say mold spores have been restored to safe levels. Red Mountain Ranch Elementary has undergone renovations this summer to remove mold found in several areas of the school. Nearly $8,000 was spent on air quality testing, and the mold remediation may exceed $50,000. Air quality at the school has been a teacher and parent concern since 2005.

Workers at a Mesa school may have found toxic mold. The search for mold came after parents complained their kids were getting sick. Red Mountain Ranch Elementary has found what could be mold in two locations. A microbial hazard sign was posted just inside the school where workers removed drywall while wearing masks. “In one classroom they found some suspicious material. They are taking that to be tested so we can share that information with parents,” said Kathy Bariess, of Mesa Public Schools.
